    Serenity, Tranquility and Peace

I finished Eric Clapton’s book. I see why it was a “New York Times” bestseller—he’s a good writer and quite fair and honest without being negative. He wrote  a good tome for anti-drug and pro-God wisdom. I was surprised to find the Monkees mentioned on page 84…

I used to hang out a lot at a club called the Speakeasy, on Margaret Street. This was a musicians’ club run by Laurie O’Leary, who had previously managed Esmeralda’s Barn for the Krays, and his brother Alphi. Everybody went there and jammed with whoever was the resident band that night. It was at the Speakeasy, around this time, that I had my first LSD trip. I was in the club with my girlfriend Charlotte and the Beatles came in with an acetate of their new album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Shortly after, the Monkees wandered in, and one of them started handing out these pills, which he said were called STP. I had no idea what that was, but somebody explained that it was a superstrong acid, which would last for several days. We all took it, except for Charlotte, who we both agreed should stay straight in case of any emergency, and shortly after that, George have the DJ the acetate to play.

On acid, the group listened to the acetate knowing the Beatles had written the album in the same drug-induced stupor. People in the club began chanting “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare” and everybody danced to “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” and “A Day In The Life”. At 6 am the hippies left the club and there were hundreds of Beatles fan waiting on the street. John Lennon had Lulu on his arm and jumped into his zooming Rolls-Royce, flashing the V-sign to the coppers. Eric’s high lasted for 3 days. He couldn’t sleep and saw everything through a glass screen with hieroglyphics and math equations on it, and meat looked just like the animal to him. Wow, dude.

You know what? I think I know who the drug dealing Monkee was... but I don't dare say here! What do you think? Remember, only two Monkees were in England at that time. Hmm.

On a somewhat brighter note, happy birthday to hubby! He is 37 today.

    Love,

    Question of the Month

Why did MTV (and its sister network, VH-1) silence the word "suicidal" in Sean Kingston's video ode to "Beautiful Girls"?

I suppose half-naked honeys gyrating provocatively is okay for viewers and the word "suicidal" is not.

Ahem!! Does that make sense? I mean, what song has actually made anyone go out and kill themselves?

AND how many videos have encouraged teens to try casual sex?

Think about it, and you'll understand my disbelief.

    MTV, you suck!

    Politics and a Panama Hat

Micky Dolenz was interviewed on the Fox News Channel regarding Hillary Clinton nominating “I’m A Believer” for her 2008 presidential campaign song. (A Celine Dion ballad was later determined the myspace.com voting winner.) “It’s a love song,” Micky protested in a white Panama hat. “I think a more appropriate song for Hillary would be ‘Your Cheatin’ Heart.’” LOL He fell into the comfort zone of listing all the Monkees writers, including the “down and out” Neil Diamond. He was joking. When pressed, Micky said he preferred Barack Obama. “I’d write a song for him,” Micky enthused. The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame is “a private club” and the Monkees’ chances of joining are slim. There is an online petition to get them there anyway. Go to www.mickydolenz.com and follow the link from the home page.

Ciao, Baby! In Memory of Lynne Randell

Lynne was one of the most famous 1960s singers in Australia. She is best known for her groovy song "Ciao Baby" and opening for the Monkees on their tour across the U.S. in 1967.  Lynne lived an incredible life. She will be missed and never forgotten. ~WP

Former teen star Lynne Randell dies

    Saturday Jun 9 12:49 AEST

The woman remembered as Australia's first teen star, Lynne Randell, has died in Melbourne.

Randell, 57, passed away on Friday after a four-year battle against an illness that had affected her nervous system, family spokesman Serge Thomann said.

She is survived by her son Jamieson and her two grand children, Jacob and Rachel.

"Grammy and Lynnie as she was known to her close friends will be greatly missed," Mr Thomann said.

    advertisement

In 1967, Randell, who was then 17 years old, became Australia's first teen sensation releasing a hit single Ciao Baby.

She followed that with a trip to the United States where she toured with The Monkees, and performed with Ike and Tina Turner.

"She was famous for her catchy pop songs, but also her unique mod hairdo," Mr Thomann said.

Randell later moved to Los Angeles and married record company executive Abe Hoch and the couple had a son, Jamieson.

She returned to Australia in 1980 and became Molly Meldrum's personal assistant, a role she best described as "being his nagging wife - a very organised nagging wife".

In 1986, Randell moved to New York to be closer to her son and to work for Seymour Stein, Madonna's record company boss.

She returned to Melbourne a couple of years later and continued working in the entertainment industry until she became ill.

"In the last few years of her life as she suffered in silence, Lynne never lost her se

nse of humour and always tried to help everyone around her with her big heart of gold," Mr Thomann said.
